Do I really need a service contract? It’s a good idea. Regular service is critical to making your plumbing last a long time and work efficiently. Regular servicing also can detect small problems before they become more serious. No one wants their plumbing to fail at the worst time possible. Regular servicing helps keep your plumbing in tip top shape and pays for itself in the long run.

Should I hire the plumber who offers me the lowest price? Maybe but not always. Price is usually an indication of quality. More efficient plumbing costs more. Better trained service people cost more. Reliable service and products cost more. Don’t let price be the only factor when choosing a plumber.

Should I call my plumber only when there is a problem? Not necessarily. Plumbing often appears to be working fine but may be on the brink of failure. Pipes and washers can have cracks or leaks which appear to be fine but if small amounts of water is leaking; this can set up a very dangerous and expensive situation. Drain lines could be slowly getting clogged with gunk and debris causing them to work a little slower and setting up a clogged line in the near future. Gas appliances could have leaks that are undetectable now but getting worse. A yearly service contract is the best way to extend the life of your plumbing system, keep it running smoothly and prevent costly repairs.

Are there special precautions I should take when going away for the holidays? Yes. Protect yourself from bursting pipes. Turn off your hot water system, all taps (including those to washing machines and dishwashers) and disconnect all hoses if you haven’t already.

Why has my water bill been excessive for the last few months? You could have a hidden leak in one of your pipes, a running toilet or a running faucet.

If I have a leak, what should I do? A little preparation can save you time, money and prevent damage to your home. Be sure you know where all the main control valves are for your plumbing. This way if an emergency leak occurs, you can turn the water off at the source, call your plumber and wait without worry, until the leak can be located and repaired.

I turned on my faucet and have NO WATER, what does that mean? It’s more than likely a problem with the main water valve or burst pipe. Check the main water valve controls to be sure they are all turned on. If they are, the issue may be a burst pipe.

My water pressure is very low, what is going on? There are several possible reasons for this issue. First, check all water main valves to be sure they are turned fully on, a valve that is partially turned off, can affect water pressure. If all valves are turned on properly, you will have to look elsewhere for the issue. You could have a burst pipe or it could be the result of mineral build up inside galvanized pipes.

I have noticed that my walls are damp, could I have a plumbing issue? It’s possible. You could be experiencing a leak in your gutter, roof or grout that has gaps or has been worn away.

What is causing my faucet to drip constantly? It could be a washer that is damaged or perhaps a pitted seal. Classic Plumbing can easily get the issue repaired for you and save you money on your water and/or gas bill!

My faucets are so hard to get on and off, is there anything that can be done or do I need to replace them? They may not need to be repaired. Call Classic Plumbing, you could have a spindle that is poorly greased or pitted which is easily repaired.

My water is brown and yucky. What is going on? Sounds like a rust problem. First check to be sure if your water main valves are on. The rust could be a result of water that has been sitting in the pipes. Once the mains are on, run the water for a few minutes to be sure it returns to its normal state. If you have an old water heater, that could be the source of the issue. It also could be due to galvanized pipes.

Is it normal for a faucet to drip or to have less water pressure? No. All faucets should maintain proper pressure and not leak. With properly designed piping and washers all should work properly. A properly designed plumbing system will have different elements to it.

Why are my toilets making gurgling noises? There could be a partial blockage in the line.

My toilet has been making noises and is running continuously, what could the issue be? Noisy toilets are usually the result of a faulty float or a bad washer.

If I have issues with my sewer, what should I do? A little preparation can save you time and money when making repairs. Have a diagram of your sewer handy. If you have issues such as a blocked drain or sewer line, you’ll save the plumber’s time in trying to find his way through a complicated system to the source of the issue.

Why are pools of water on my lawn? It could be the result of bad drainage. However, if the issue is new, it could be pointing to a problem in either your outdoor water lines or a sewage leak.

Why are spots of my lawn that are much greener than other areas? You could have an underground water leak or a sewage leak on the lawn.
